 The Power of Women Leading from the Heartwith Nina SimonsThursday, December 8, 2011This time of environmental and social upheaval calls for a reinvention of leadership. It calls for healing, community-building and collaboration, and requires employing innovative, creative, empathic and relational thinking. Given that many cultures have systematically devalued these and other relevant capacities associated with the ‘feminine,' Nina suggests reframing our understanding and appreciation of those qualities and gifts, both individually and society-wide. Effective leaders need to be flexible and cooperative, and adept at bridging differences and forging collaborations systemically - across disciplines, generations, ethnicities, cultures and sectors that have previously operated in isolation. Few skills are more needed in this time than our ability to connect across differences, and bring all of our human capacities to bear in shifting our collective course to a future that's just, healthy and resilient. Nina Simons is co-founder & co-CEO of the non-profit Bioneers, an organization that since 1990 has identified, featured and disseminated breakthrough solutions for people and planet. Her recently published anthology book Moonrise: The Power of Women Leading from the Heart tells inspiring stories of women, nature, leadership, justice and engaged action. She co-facilitates Cultivating Women's Leadership intensives with Toby Herzlich.
